A Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is the qualifying exam you must pass to teach in a government school. The Central Board of Secondary Education holds the national CTET, and many states hold their own, such as UPTET, REET and Bihar TET. Paper I is for classes 1 to 5 and Paper II is for classes 6 to 8.

ExamForge gives you 4 free, timed TET mock tests of 114, 41, 33 and 28 questions, covering Child Development and Pedagogy, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Hindi and English. Every question has an explanation after you submit. The question bank is in English only. Your first three sets need no signup.

Most TETs have no negative marking, and these sets do not, so your score here is worked out the same way as in the exam.

This is the CTET Paper I pattern; state TETs differ in languages and subjects. Paper II replaces Mathematics and Environmental Studies with Mathematics and Science, or Social Studies. ExamForge also has separate exam pages for CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2, with sectional sets.

Eligibility

Requirements are set by each board. For the national CTET:

Paper I
Class 12 with at least 50% and a D.El.Ed or B.El.Ed, or a graduate degree with the qualifications the notice lists.
Paper II
A graduate degree and a B.Ed, or an equivalent teaching qualification in the notice.
Age
There is no upper age limit for most TETs.

Selection process

A TET is only the first step to a teaching job.

  1. Pass the TET

Score at least the qualifying mark to receive an eligibility certificate.

  2. Apply for a teaching post

Schools and recruiting boards open posts separately, and TET marks usually count toward merit.

Preparation tips

  • Treat Child Development as your base

It appears in every paper and every state TET, so theories and terms are worth learning exactly.

  • Learn pedagogy along with content

Every language and Maths question can be about content or about how to teach it.

  • Revise from the explanations

They state the principle behind the answer, which is what the next question will test.
